Waiters appreciate an odd-shaped tip December 2008 WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A cheap tip can be appreciated, if it’s shaped like a two-headed snake. “Dollar artist” Marc Sky crafts and folds one dollar bills into intricate patterns including snakes, winged dragons, Barack Obama, and the Virgin Mary kneeling at the cross, which he sells on his website, dollarartist.com. The bill bender says his unique money art makes for an interesting, if not cheap, tip at a restaurant. He says, “You get a good response. It leaves an effect on the waiter or waitress, and you get better service the next time, even though it’s only one dollar.” Sky also thinks his cash creations are the perfect when approaching a fine female or fella. He explains, “You can make a heart with an arrow going through it and give it to someone at a bar. It’s a good way to break the ice. You just have to hope they don’t spend it.” |

Anyone have change for a dollar? Dynamic Dollar Art November 2008 by Diana Eid Have you ever had one of those days while riding public transportation, looking down at your crumpled money and thought, “Damn, I wish I could turn this dollar bill into Cartman”? No? Me neither. But if I did, I'd turn to this artist. Marc Sky, the Dollar Artist, creates cool origami sculptures out of dollar bills. He has made many unique creations such as animals, religious figures, movie icons, Zodiac signs and historical figures. He even has a special Adults Only section crafted from dollar bills. I would have looked at it but my Mom was standing right behind me, so you'll have to check it out for me and give me all the details. Most of these sculptures are available for purchase on his website and cost $7.95. The Dollar Artist will even show up at events and trade shows to make dollar sculptures for people. He can even fold a message out of dollar bills, such as: “I Love InventorSpot.” Actually, these would make great Christmas gifts, because this is one gift that won’t be re-gifted. Unless you’re one of those people that just likes to give your money away….but if you are, feel free to send it to Diana, c/o InventorSpot. |

September 2008 By Erin Peterson, Bankrate.com If you're looking for a special gift with a tiny price tag, consider giving money. No, not a check or a crisp, big bill stuffed into a greeting card -- a gift made out of money. And gifts of money can be worth much more than the paper they're printed on. Artist Marc Sky at DollarArtist.com has been folding money since he was a kid. "I started in grade-school class, just folding my allowance money," he says. "When I ran out of that, I used Monopoly money to practice." Now he has more than 300 models, including frogs, hearts, and Wall-E, the lovable new robot in the Pixar movie of the same name |

It's all in the Fold August 2007 The exhibition takes a world look at the way paper transforms itself when folded. More than only to amuse, origami today also teaches mathematics, and geometry. It's more than just cranes and duckies. Chicago & national Origami artists and teachers will amaze you with the dexterity of their folds. ((((( The All in the Fold - More than just Origami exhibition has concluded. I have sent your art back to you. Yours was one of the most favorite in the show. People still can't get over how you can find a way to get the "eyes" in the right place... I can't either. Thank you so much for participating. It was a joy to introduce you to our visitors. Best regards, Bill Drendel Gallery Coordinator, Columbia College Chicago Center for Book & Paper Arts ))))) |

Making money July 2007 Marc Sky, aka the Dollar Artist, crafts intricate sculptures out of paper currency. His unique creations run the gamut — everything from a Buddha to a walrus. He also makes letters of the alphabet so you can spell out a personal message or greeting. Borrowing from the Japanese technique of origami, Sky patiently and painstakingly folds each sculpture by hand. The greenback itself is also key: He uses only currency that’s new and crisp. Most of the pieces are created from a single dollar bill, so he gets a lot of bang for a buck. Go online to order your own design from Sky. |

May 14, 2007 Crafting cash It's the perfect pocket pet: No eating, no pooping, no training. The origami critters from dollarartist.com are all made out of crisp dollar bills (anything larger tends to get lifted by admiring passersby, the site explains). There are dogs, cats, even a ferret, and the New Jersey-based artist does parties, too. |

Dollars to dogs Spring, 2007 Marc Sky is a dollar artist; that is, he coaxes creatures and more-from legal tender, elevating the humble one dollar bill to art. His little dog figures, sculpted from intricately folded bills, the lines and swirls forming expressive eyes and pert mouths, are amazing. And at $7.95, they're a steal, especially when you consider you're getting a dollar back. To order, visit dollarartist.com. |

Holiday gifts made from paper money By Sandra Deurr December 1981 Shaping ornaments, cookies and macrame like Christmas trees is one thing. But real money? Why not? As one who does it for a living, Marc Sky of Woodbridge, NJ, says it's fascinating. "It makes an interesting gift ... something (people) will probably keep and remember. They're certainly not going to throw it away." He's got a point there. If a person is broke, he or she can just unfold the gift. How many other presents provide instant cash? Sky has been folding his 'Creative Money Designs' for many years, adapting techniques of origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. He first became interested in the art as a teenager. The work looks difficult and is, Sky said, mainly because it's exacting and requires plenty of patience. The bills must be new and crisp. He can make about 75 different types of designs, from such seasonal characters as Santa to rings and a bikini. Some designs individual names, for instance - require the use of several bills. He set up a display in First County Bank's corporate offices on Milltown Road in North Brunswick a few weeks ago. First County Bank officers reasoned that "it's a very unique thing and something that could be easily related to banking," said President Robert C. Entwistle. "We thought it was a very natural thing to do." |
